How to make the Tiny Desk AI video with your friends

Use one regular selfie per person, up to five, or one group photo. You sing lead and get the close-up with the big laugh, and your friends play the keys, the sax and the two backing vocals.

Who plays which part

  • Lead singer: the long close-up with the note, the laugh and the wave. Put the person who'll post it here.
  • Keys: sits in front at the red keyboard in the band shot, and is in the foreground of the sax solo.
  • Sax: the solo at the end.
  • Backing left and right: stand behind the keys in the band shot, singing.

Step by step

  1. Add your photo to the lead spot.
  2. Add a friend to each part, or tap Use a group photo: the people in it fill the parts in order, and you pick who to use if there are more than five.
  3. Fewer than five of you? Our band plays the empty parts.
  4. Watch the free preview of the lead's close-up, then unlock the full video with the whole band.

The selfies to ask for

One clear selfie each, facing the camera, chest up, no sunglasses or heavy filters. The lead singer gets the biggest close-up, so a sharp face matters most there. Only use photos of friends who are happy to be in the video.

Your team's version

The meme started with coaches after a loss. Make it with your own crew instead: you and your teammates or fellow fans in your team's jerseys, since everyone keeps the clothes in their photo. Photos of real coaches, athletes and other public figures aren't allowed.

With friends: questions

Can I use regular selfies for the Tiny Desk AI video?

Yes. One clear selfie per person, facing the camera, chest up. No special shoot needed.

How many people can be in one Tiny Desk AI video?

Five: the lead singer, the keys, the sax and two backing singers. One photo is enough; our band fills the rest.

Can my dog or cat play one of the parts?

Yes, any part. Upload its photo and say it's a pet when we ask; it plays with its own fur and paws. The free preview shows only the lead, so a pet on the keys or sax first appears in the full video.

Does it cost more with five people?

No. The price is per video, the same with one photo or five.

Can I put my coach or a player in it?

No. Photos of coaches, athletes and other public figures aren't allowed. Use photos of yourself and friends who agreed; team jerseys are fine.

Up to five photos or one group photo, and a free preview first.
